It’s Friday and it’s been a big couple of days, the new routine is underway and it’s trying to sort itself out. The Christmas festivities are over, the excesses are showing and things need to change (again) if I want a different outcome.

Life is very different to the time of my last weight loss journey and I’m calling in all the things that worked before. The chocolates are gone, my champagne glass is filled with sparkling mineral water (sad, but true, and it works) and I’m scouring the recipe books for the old ideas, and for new ideas to keep things interesting. I’m still eating 15 different varieties of plant-based foods every day. My morning walk is now the afternoon walk. The early morning rush is prompting me to prepare breakfast for later and half an hour for lunch goes way too quickly, even if I do only live 3 minutes away. Finally, I’m watching when I’m eating and why – because I’m bored or I need a break, because it’s meal time (who made that rule up?) and even, wait for it! because I’m hungry (who would have thought!). The connections will eventually make sense and then the changes can really start to set in.

What will work for me this time is something I don’t know for sure yet. I know I’ve done this before and there’s no reason I can’t do it again. I know what worked before and that’s where I can start. I know I’ve learned from last time and there are many things in place now that weren’t before and that makes it a whole new starting place. With my bigger picture in mind – to feel great again, to get back to that healthy weight when I felt my best and to get my blog, workshop, and coaching self out there – I have more than enough focus to keep me going. The rest is just about making adjustments until things become what’s working for me this time.
