Declutter and automate

This week I was asked if I thought it was a good idea to automate. Once you’ve simplified your life with a decluttering process you’ll want to keep things simple and automating is a great step towards that.

I have to admit I’ve resisted using anything that remotely resembled technology to simplify some parts of my life. Things might be different after this week!

Here’s how I’ve simplified my life this week:

  1. CardMunch – a card reading app that has made the collection of information from business cards simple. From the photo of a business card I get back the LinkedIn profile, including a photo, who they are, what they do and their contact information. I can then import to other platforms for other automated processes.
  2. Email to phone – My email set up has been holding me back with this process that many are already using. There has to be an easier way! Why not use the other email address I have for all the interesting “must haves” and have the important client emails come through to my phone to reply quickly. Sometimes the obvious isn’t obvious until it is!
  3. Templates – the wheel does not need to be reinvented every time! Standard forms and cut and paste techniques work and save time and frustration while still giving a professional look and consistent message. Many programs have their own templates and can easily be adapted and personalised. Take the time to find, or make, your own templates. The first one will seem to take forever – every single time you use it after that you’ll be so grateful you did.
  4. Scheduled posts – this is now on my list of things to learn!

I live in a world that moves faster than I sometimes want, I am impatient and I want things easy and easy to manage. Already much of my daily life is automated, from predictive text, to phone and email reminders and even direct debit payments. They are such a time and worry saver. Automating frees me up to help my clients declutter, streamline and simplify their lives so they too can get on with doing what they love most.
