It’s been 10 weeks since I started my house sitting lifestyle. For 10 weeks, everything I thought I’d need has travelled with me in my car. But after 10 weeks and several house sits I dreaded the prospect of finding anything in my car.
I was getting frustrated not remembering where I’d put things and there seemed to be no logic or consistency to any of it. My small bag was bulging as I jammed more into it and packing the car was an exhausting exercise. Today I got the chance to empty my car and re-group.
What did I do to make my life easier? I used my own system to help me. I re-focused on what’s important to me – easy access to all I need and being able to see what I’ve got without having to unpack the whole damn car every time!
Today, with room to spread out I had the chance to really see what’s there. From here on I only take what I need. I sorted what’s going and stuff is going! It’s being donated, trashed and sold. Papers and receipts are being shredded!
I cleaned – there’s nothing nicer than starting afresh from a fresh space (and yes, my car will have a clean before it all goes back in)! What I’m keeping is now in a practical order, all bags are colour coded, keeping like with like. I’m making more efficient use of vacuum bags, again keeping like with like in clear bags and labelled so it’s easy to see what’s there. And finally the celebration!
Today’s re-group means my sense of order and control is at peace once more. At least for a little while! My sense of certainty is kicking in as I gain momentum with house sitting assignments. Settling into a new lifestyle is definitely happening and thank goodness I enjoy decluttering and simplifying my own life too!
