This week I’ve been sick and I can tell you I am not a good patient.
Here’s what I’ve learned/been reminded of this week:
- How much I take my good health for granted. I am a fairly healthy person with no serious health concerns – I could be more grateful for that fact.
- Sometimes I just need to stop. I don’t know always know why but my body is obviously telling me it’s now.
- If rest is what I need then rest is what I will do. To tell the truth I tried to soldier on but my body said “Nah, don’t bother”.
- The world won’t stop without me – to cancel and re-schedule clients is not the worst thing I can do, even if it’s at short notice. This was confirmed by the conversation – “please don’t come in – you can keep that all to yourself”!
- Food is overrated! This from someone who loves their food! My body did not want the extra effort of dealing with food – the cooking, the eating or any part of the process.
- I’m sure there’s a reason why I’m sick – now is not the time to think about that. Now is the time to heal whatever’s going on with my body.
- In the grand scale of things this is a small setback. A week out of my life will not make much difference, unless I push my body rather than rest it and then it could end up being more than a week out of my life.
Health is the one basic that impacts every other area of life. It is Priority #1. Listen to what your body is telling you and give it what it needs. I appreciate this can be inconvenient in our fast paced world but the alternative is a lot more inconvenient. Take it step by step and then aim for the next one. Your body will thank you for it.
