Reclaim your life – how to get rid of Mondayitis

This week I talked with a client about that dreaded feeling that comes over her on Mondays. Mondayitis can hit anytime but many people really feel it on Mondays – that feeling of “here we go again and it’s never ending”, generally accompanied by “what’s the point?” and made worse by the fact that you’ve just had two days off & it’s five days until the next two days off.

So, what to do when Mondayitis hits? Here are some suggestions:

  • Know why you’re doing something – even it’s a step along the way to something else when you know why you’re doing something there’s a whole other motivation and purpose that kicks in.
  • Have a big vision for your week – not just what you’re going to do, but also how you’re going to “be”.
  • Stay focused on this vision – watch how much you get done and what you no longer want to do especially when it comes to gossiping, complaining and playing the blame game.
  • Plan the week ahead – you can’t know everything that’s going to crop up but taking charge of what you do know means there’ll be less stress when those last minute things show up.
  • Break down the steps of those big projects & tasks.
  • Face those things that you’re dreading – and do them. Avoiding them only adds to your Mondayitis.
  • Delegate the parts you can’t do to someone who can so it gets done and it’s not a cause for your procrastination and further doom and gloom.
  • Make next week’s plans this week and allow extra time for travel, delays, or other those other unforseen problems that come up.
  • Schedule in time for you – exercise, time out, friends ie the activities that remind you that you are more than just your job or your business.
  • Make the choice that every day is a good one and that no-one can spoil it for you. I tried this on my birthday one year and slowly it dawned on me that I could do this every day.
  • Be present to what you’re doing. Wishing away the day is not the answer, being present and in the moment is.
  • Celebrate your successes along the way.

Mondayitis is about lifting your spirit. Taking charge of your time and your attitude can make the difference between doing what you’re supposed to do and doing what you want to do. It can be a fresh start every week, another opportunity for a new beginning and coupled with the steps to your bigger plan the week ahead is so much more promising than “just another week of the same old, same old”.
