You’ve decided! You know exactly what you want and how great it will be! And then you see the size of the job. Simplifying your life now seems a really daunting project.
What about simplifying that process?
1. Chunk it down by starting small. Pick one area and start with that. Taking small steps sets you up for success – you deal with, and master, one thing at a time and you see results sooner and more often.
2. Reward each success – it may be as simple as a big tick, or taking the time for a stretch or sharing this success with someone else. It may just be admiring the difference it’s made to you. Enjoy the journey and the learning as you go.
3. Use the momentum that comes from successfully completing each stage – each success will inspire you to take on the next step. You should find that you gain energy as you see your success. Assess your progress and any problems that are surfacing eg physical tiredness, time availability. You may decide to continue on, or you may need to re-schedule after an appropriate break.
4. Finish the project by putting new systems in place and do things differently from here on in. You may need to remove distractions, encourage support from others or block some time for maintenance tasks. Your new habits will only take a few times to become established, but once in place you will enjoy the ease with which things happen.
It doesn’t matter what area of your life, your work or your home you want to simplify these steps will make for easier progress and results that last. Small steps consistently taken will take you to your simplified life.
