Widening the Circle

This week I’ve had a few days of being single so it’s been a great time to live to my own timetable, reflect and try some different things. So what have I done with my few days of freedom?

I went to a free bootcamp.   It happens every Sunday morning at a park not too far from home.   It was a bigger workout than I expected and I felt it for a couple of days afterwards so I guess it worked! There were about 50 of us, sorted into various fitness levels.   I watched my resistance come up – I’m not doing that, I’m too old for that stuff, the usual excuses – and I kept going, with some minor adjustments that still allowed me to push myself.   What I need to work on became pretty obvious very quickly.   Nothing like a dose of current reality to keep me motivated!   Apparently exercise is only 20% of the story; the other 80% is nutrition and that’s what they were really there to teach about.   The free bootcamp was free but there was quite a push to purchase their supplements as the only way for me to lose weight, change my body shape and feel amazing.

I disagree.

I will stick with real food, I enjoy cooking and learning about nutrition through real meals rather than meal replacements, exercise is great for the spirit (as well as the physical body) and life is meant to be lived in the real world with all its ups and downs and uncertainties.

This week I have again been reminded that the more I participate in life the less my focus is solely on my weight.   A few days on my own and I’m reminded of the many things I want to do, and having a partner is no excuse not to do them.  Having some me time, doing things I love (and trying new ones), and being with those who lift, inspire and challenge me is allowing me to re-frame how I see myself.   So, will I be at the free bootcamp this Sunday?   And I’m looking at yoga classes again and there’s also that hiking group I wanted to try.   There is so much out there to get into!   I hope he’s okay with that when he’s back tomorrow evening!
