From my first coach, I learned how to thoroughly enjoy my own space. I am a homebody and I love home! Home is a place where I can regroup and nurture myself after being out in the world, where I can do what I need to do and chill out as well! Knowing this is true for me you might wonder then – how do I live as a housesitter?
I have come to embrace “Home is where the heart is” which means I am at home, even in someone else’s home. There is a routine, a process, steps I take to make it as easy and seamless as possible. There are some creature comforts I need – a clean space, clear boundaries and some personal touches.
A clean space:
- Yes, I clean, or tidy, whatever I need to feel comfortable in the space.
- I give the place some of my love.
- The energy shifts.
- And I have arrived.
Clear boundaries:
- And then I unpack and organize.
- I claim some space for my lifestyle. (I take photos so the owners return to home as they know it.)
- I make room to live and work.
- And I plan time with the pets that come with the house.
I bring a few treasures with me:
- Some kitchen gadgets I can’t live without – oh the number of times I couldn’t find an egg cup! I know first world problems!
- A couple of easily displayed items that make it my space.
- A quilt I made a lifetime ago that easily transforms any bedroom into my own.
Until I do these things I’m really only a visitor. I have not settled. I am not grounded. And I’m short-changing myself of the experience of being fully present in the home. It’s worth doing because I am worth it.
