Have Your Goals Drifted Off Into the Distance?

My September spring cleaning actions went a long way towards living the lighter, cleaner lifestyle I’m choosing.  With the physical obstructions out of the way, it’s time to look at all those things I said I’d get done this year. There are still 90 days to make them happen.

Here’s where I am – perhaps you can relate:

I’ve done pretty well. I’ve made some pretty good changes and I’m staying on track. I’m certainly grateful for my life as it is but I have to say I’ve not been inspired to make any changes to make it even better. I’m content with where I am but there’s an underlying uneasiness with it and It’s not providing me the long-term certainty, security and ease I thought I’d have by now. There’s a sense of marking time which means, if I want something more, I need to be doing something more.

So what’s stopping me?

  • A sense of complacency has crept in. I no longer have the pain I had.
  • Things are good now, why rock the boat?
  • Things are humming along nicely and I’d decided I didn’t need to pursue it any further.
  • I am doing okay without it so why go through the pain of growth and through to possible rejection/failure if I don’t need to?

It seems avoiding the pain is taking priority over moving towards pleasure. Surely I’m past “just surviving” oscillating from pain to non-pain.

It’s time to turn that around.

This week I was reminded of a big goal I’d let slip by the wayside. Over the next 90 days, I will complete that goal I’ve let drift. It will require:

  • Reconnecting with my ”why” ie moving towards pleasure, not just keeping pain at bay
  • Planning the steps
  • Taking the actions
  • Support and accountability
  • Regular check-ins and review

The suggestion was to view it as a Christmas gift to myself. That put a lovely slant on it! No pressure but a time frame within which to get it done.

What goals have you let drift off into the distance? What actions do you need to take to bring those goals back to life and see them through to their final creation? What is the next step you need to take to do so?
