Making the Plans & Taking the Actions

This past week I’ve looked at what still needs to be done if I’m to achieve the outcomes I set at the start of the year. After a day in the doldrums and feeling “oh, woe is me!” I’ve kicked up a gear not only with taking action, more importantly, I’m taking different action.

I followed my own advice from last week:

  • Reconnected with my ”why” – my biggest whys are freedom and independence. Being dependent on the status quo doesn’t work and takes away my sense of freedom. It’s actually exhausting to keep it all in place, even though it’s safer than the riskiness of taking steps into the unknown.
  • Planning the steps – I’m good at planning and I enjoy it. I’ve been planning my time in new ways to support a 30-day health challenge. I am really enjoying planning a new way of eating and new recipes. I hadn’t realized how much boredom had set in with regards to my routine and my eating habits.
  • Taking the actions – while I’m good at planning I’m challenged with taking action. This week I’ve spent way too much time judging how and when I should be doing things and too little time acknowledging that I have actually taken steps towards my outcomes. I also had one of those timely invitations that seem to come out of the blue and action is now more inspired.
  • Support and accountability – Being able to call friends for support has been a savior to me. As someone who thought they always have to be the strong one it’s actually quite freeing to let that guard down. My friends are some of my accountability partners; others include the Facebook groups that both help and inspire.
  • Regular check-ins and review – My day in the doldrums was a time for reflection, to stop doing, to stop judging and to take some time out. I journal each morning to sort out the stuff that‘s in my head and to focus on my day. I meet regularly with my coach and I do other things like reviewing my finances, and checking with my clients and what they need is another to review my progress.

At this end of the week, I have to say I’m seeing my progress. Widening my view has helped me to focus on what actions I need to take and to take them consciously, not because I have to. Now that’s taking different action!
