Spring Clean Your Life

You’d think as a house sitter I wouldn’t have much to spring clean but my sore back is telling me otherwise! After 4 months in one place, I’m really seeing (and feeling) how much I’ve accumulated. It’s time to do a physical cull, and to review what else I can cull to support what I want in my life.

So, here it goes!

My home office – it comes with me, it’s digital and portable.

  • I’m pretty good now with using my laptop (and many screens) for most things. I have a digital signature to reduce paperwork. I’ve just realized this means I don’t need to carry much stationery either!
  • I no longer travel with a printer – crazy what I thought I really needed! As it happened it did not travel well and died. I chose not to replace it.
  • Officeworks has the most amazing staff that helps me print what I need when I need it.

My weight – 4 months and winter comfort eating have left me feeling not my best. And so some simple decisions –

  • Scheduling is a big one.
  • Prioritize (and take action on):

–  restful sleep,

–  moving more and

–   I’ve taken the 10pm snack out of my daily calendar.

  • Cull my books and keep (and use) one cookbook to inspire interest in food once more.

These are my small steps to start and build the momentum to living a healthy, more active life.

My thoughts – a work in progress.

  • I start my day by journaling. This takes the concerns out of my head and re-focuses me for the day ahead.
  • I stick to three major projects a week and work on three activities each day to support those outcomes. I regularly review and refine what‘s going on in my calendar.
  • I make changes that support my needs. I’m better now at recognizing when I need to stop, rest or refocus. I am better now at being focused, asking for what I need and saying no when I physically can’t, or it’s not my priority list.

By doing these simple things I keep my stress levels manageable and the debilitating negative thoughts in check.

The burst of spring cleaning may be over for now but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop! That was merely a starting point!
