Where has the time gone?

Where has the time gone?   Sometimes it seems I’m so busy and yet looking back I can’t see what I’ve actually done.

Today I thought I’d share three tips that help me with managing my time to fit in work and play.

  • I am most effective when I work with my body’s natural rhythm.   I like to start fresh in the morning when my enthusiasm is high and I know what I need to do.   When the afternoon energy drops I am most productive doing routine tasks that allow me reflection time or connection with others.  This can change at any time and I’m okay with what my body needs, even if it does sound weird to the rest of the world!
  • I like variety, colour and interest and visuals are great for me!   The week-at-a-glance (or month-at-a-glance) views give me an overview of everything.   Adding colour to my calendar for different activities helps me easily see what’s on and gets my head into gear quickly.   I love the ticks on my task list for seeing what I’ve done and to re-focus me on what still needs to be done!   An alert or reminder (just one!) draws my attention to what’s next and I can wrap up in plenty of time.
  • Staying focused sounds easy when there are no competing time constraints, interruptions and other distractions that the day brings!   Think back to when you last went on holidays – how much did you manage to get done before you left?   Surprising, right?   When I’m clear on what I’m doing, and why, not only does my attention stay focused, things seem to conspire to support me as well.

These are three tips I’ve used to get my life moving and live it in a balanced way.   This is not to say that I’m always on time.   I slip up, I forget, I fall behind.   I have my last minute rushes and I sometimes upset others as a result.   There’s still room for improvement and there’s always room for being gentle with myself.   These are the time I know I need to take a few breaths, keep calm and carry on.
