One Small Change Can Make One Big Difference

This week I’ve seen how changing one little action has flowed on to make a positive difference to other areas of my life. Sparked by the idea of giving myself the gift of success for Christmas I have a whole new perspective on my 90-day planning and there’s been a major leap in momentum.

For those who don’t know, my life coaching career started as a weight loss group leader where I saw how I inspired over 100 women (and the occasional man) each week with my excitement at sharing how losing weight can be fun and easy. Over time my weight and health goals have stagnated and the excitement has waned. I thought I knew it all and there was nothing else I needed to know. How wrong I was!

I’ve recently joined a 30-day health challenge. It’s re-ignited excitement in what I’m doing and I love it!

  • I started with the part that’s easy for me.
  • I am enjoying healthy fresh food again.
  • I’m trying new foods and understanding why and how they support a healthy lifestyle.
  • I love the whole preparation and presentation process again!
  • I’m sharing it with friends via Facebook posts in the group and in person with lunch invitations.
  • My repertoire of meals has expanded and they are all delicious!

So that’s the food part!

Exercise:

  • I’ve created a routine that fits easily into my day.
  • I’m walking again, with energy, not just strolling! (and I don’t even have a dog to walk just now!)
  • I’ve added an exercise routine.
  • I’m actually working up a sweat!
  • I’ve remembered how much I enjoyed the exercise part.

Water:

  • I’m drinking water again.
  • I’m being only slightly sarcastic when I say coffee and alcohol don’t count!

Time management:

  • Prioritising what’s important is a no-brainer.
  • I’m more focused.
  • I’m less rushed.
  • I’ve slowed down AND I’m getting more done.
  • There’s time for fun, and permission for downtime (without guilt even!)

The truth is it’s not one action that made the difference; it’s one decision for a different outcome and one action has started a snowball effect. One small decision to get healthy as a great gift to myself hasn’t required big changes nor has it needed willpower. With this one decision and changing one small action to start the ball rolling, everything else is now placed to support it.
